I wasn't aware of this until now. He left in late March and explains why here:

 

 

Although it seems him and Mike had a bit of a tiff as well:

 

 

What a shame, I loved Wheeler Dealers but I have to admit, the shows they made in the US had lost more than a little of the magic which made it work when it was produced in the UK :(
