vikpaw Posted June 16, 2017 Posted June 16, 2017 (edited) @vikpaw All attendance changes are audited in SIMS It never really worked for me. IIRC it didn't quite have the correct info, I always believed we should know who recorded or changed a mark, but I don't think that is required from a legal perspective, however it is something that I wanted and didn't seem to work. Mentioned in this post http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/165497-what-no-audit-trail-safeguarding-4.html#post1421430 CAM later states it didn't work for him. Extract: Another area where monitoring a change is useful is the attendance figures. SIMS is supposed to record this, I thought it was a legal requirement, but I never got it to work properly. For starters the reason for change was never properly implemented, it always defaulted to 'Entered in Error' and the user couldn't change it. Also, I'm sure through certain routes, the system would log the change as the original class teacher of the class, not the actual user who did it. I can't comment in full as it's been a while since I tried to monitor this area, but it was always a sore point for me. It could be a simple as someone getting a detention for too many lates, or as important as a student not being able to graduate because their % attendance was not enough for the year. Retrospective tracking would help. With regards to the subject in hand, this seems like a really good way to manage the situation and use the right modules: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/169658-automating-lesson-marks-based-quick-behaviour-incidents.html#post1452736 I've linked to the most pertinent posts, but both threads are worth a read. PhilNeal Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 (edited) I''m not sure that I agree with you @vikpaw. Registration in the UK is a legal record and can be used in courts to prove that children are in class or not. Therefore registration is something that cannot be treated as an inference. Registers need to be taken. Edited June 17, 2017 by PhilNeal
vikpaw Posted June 17, 2017 Posted June 17, 2017 (edited) Sorry I wasn't clear. Recording attendance is a legal requirement. EDIT: AFAIK only the session marks. I had previously thought recording who took/changed the attendance was also a legal requirement. I never got confirmation on this. One would think if ever it was needed legally, the 'who' would matter, but I found SIMS didn't provide this, nor a reason for change despite having a lookup table of reasons. So it is limited at best. My point was that changing attendance in the way described would affect any audit logs, but for SIMS this wouldn't really matter since the log is limited. Just my experience - don't want to digress too far off topic here. Edited June 17, 2017 by vikpaw
krtek Posted June 18, 2017 Posted June 18, 2017 keeping records of changes made to attendance marks became statutory in 2006 and a child is either there or not and so I have never heard a convincing case for using anything other than 'original mark recorded in error' I support Phil's observation that the register should be taken at the start of the lesson but we have many schools recording information other than behaviour by nobbling the codes and very happy doing so 1
Banjo Posted June 19, 2017 Posted June 19, 2017 (edited) Sorry @GREED - no can do!! If your talking about what I think your talking about can you set the default value? @GREED - If you can then its works better than mapping attendance. Edited June 19, 2017 by Banjo

vikpaw Posted June 20, 2017 Posted June 20, 2017 Did I? I'm not in that thread. Ah, yes, that looks odd. Used the same link twice. The first link from which I took an extract should have been this : http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/165497-what-no-audit-trail-safeguarding-4.html#post1421430 Edited it above too.
