ReverentCreature Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Hi I am getting c00000005 BSOD error on a Windows 7 laptop. The user claims it happens randomly when she uses different applications, normally one or two hours into using the computer. I haven't been able to narrow it down to a particular application. I could rebuild the computer but I'm not sure if that would resolve the issue. Articles online suggest a virus used to cause this some years back on XP but this is Windows 7. Has anyone else encountered this?
Patrick Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Check the event logs, it might point you in the right direction.
mrwoberts Posted April 27, 2017 Posted April 27, 2017 Driver issue?? If you are able to faithfully reproduce the STOP error, run msconfig and on the Services and Startup tabs, disable anything not essential for the purposes of troubleshooting. If after this selective startup the device no longer blue screens, then it is a matter of narrowing down which driver/app is triggering this. If it still blue screens, I'd first run memtest to check the memory - a couple of hours.... If memtest doesn't pick up any errors, then next place I'd look is the drivers that are loaded on boot/startup - tricky to narrow that down, but there are some useful tools out there - Autoruns from Sysinternals. 1
lvlpost Posted May 4, 2017 Posted May 4, 2017 Error Code 0xc0000005 means access violation in memory. In most of the cases this is caused by a faulty RAM. Change your RAM with another one and then test.
fiza Posted August 3, 2017 Posted August 3, 2017 @ReverentCreature - Did you resolve this issue? I have just imaged 25 identical computers with an updated image from MDT and 5 have blue screened during the final throws of the imaging process. The BSOD code is the same "C000021a {Fatal System Error} The Windows Subsystem system process terminated unexpectedly c000005 (0xfc9e1b2f 0x0088e880). I don't understand why only 5 blue screened and the rest are fine.
dapaulio Posted August 4, 2017 Posted August 4, 2017 If it is Bsod then it will create a mini dump file in %systemroot%\minidump and use blue screen viewer to analyse the the dmp files. This may give you a better indication of what may be causing it 1
ReverentCreature Posted August 14, 2017 Author Posted August 14, 2017 Hi, No I wasn't able to narrow down the cause of the issue. It refused to crash for me when I used the laptop and crashed randomly for the teacher even after updating the drivers and scanning the hard drive. I noticed that the laptop was relatively new for the Windows 7 that was installed on it so I rebuilt as Windows 10 and its been fine since. 1
