File explorer in start menu - Windows 10 Anniversary

Hi all,

Back in 1511 there used to be a link by default in the start menu to file explorer.

In 1607, by default this is now disabled. I know you can re-enable via settings but has anybody successfully managed to globally deploy this?

Thank you!

The little file explorer icon on the far left, I was not able to do anything with.

My solution was to pin it to the start menu and use the xml file.

If you're using roaming or mandatory profiles, you can copy a configured start menu with these folder by copying the tiledatalayer from a local users profile and put it into the local folder of a roaming or mandatory profile. We've removed the settings cog from the left and shown, documents, pictures etc and pushed it into the staff and student mandatory profiles.

I've just had a thought, you could push this tiledatalayer into the default profile on the local machine. Maybe have a group policy script that deletes the current one and copies this configured one.

Edit....just tested this idea with a new user and the new user has got the configured icons on the left. Yoi coild couple this with the xml start menu and i think that would give you a solution (ive not tested it with an imported start menu)
