Display to multiple devices

Hi Edugeeks,

 

I was wondering if anyone can suggest or help with something I'm trying to achieve.

 

Every now and then we have a presentation given by our Head Teacher and others to parents etc.

 

He uses a podium and always requests for a screen so that he doesn't have to look at the projection on the wall to know what slide he is on.

 

Until now, we've been using a VGA splitter to output to the projector as well as the screen on the podium whilst keeping the laptop screen on as well.

 

However the problem with this is the setup takes too long and there's just too much cable management etc to do since I have to use 10m cables.

 

 

I was thinking, instead of outputting to both the projector and the screen I can output to the projector and place a surface pro on the podium for him to see.

However I can't seem to find a presentation clicker that allows me to control two computers with one clicker.

 

Does any one know of a solution or if there are any clickers out in the market that will allow me to control two computers with one clicker by placing the USB recievers into both computers

(they're usually programmed to only receive from the one they're paired with)

 

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Where's the laptop in the current setup? How does a Surface Pro work, are you just thinking of loading the same presentation on both? Could use VNC to view the screen of the primary laptop on a secondary computer

We have a desktop AIO on a portable lectern. That is then plugged into a floor box when needed and the image is split between the 2 screens.

The laptop is in a laptop box that is mounted to the wall, yeh, I was just planning to load the presentation on both. I didn't think of VNC, that would be great!

 

Only time it wouldn't work really is when we have our celebration evening in the town hall, but once it's not a problem to be honest.

That would be a bit tricky for us since we don't have much space on our lectern, also, we don't have a floor box to plug it into.

These are used in the professional corporate world where they have a main PC and a backup PC - the 2 machines run identical PPT's so if the main PC crashes the data operator can switch to the backup which is in exactly the right place and the presenter and audience know no difference.

 

Seems very overkill for your application though - VNC viewer could be a much easier (and cheaper) solution.

When we've come up against this sort of scenario, we've used AirServer on the machine connected to the projector and screen, and then had the person presenting AirPlay over whatever they're doing from the device in front of them.

 

We're on Windows 7 at the moment so we can currently only do this from Apple devices, but I understand we should be able to Chromecast / Miracast when we upgrade to Windows 10.
