Failover High Availability

Hi all hopefully some of you can advise.

 

I upgraded our virtual server environment and SAN in the summer. I have kept the old kit in the hope that when I get time I would try and set up the old kit in another building on our site to act as failover if disaster struck and wiped out our new SAN and server environment. Our new setup consists of:

 

• HP MSA 2040
  
• x2 HP DL380 G9 | built as Microsoft Hyper V Cluster
  
• 
  
• 
  

 

The old kit consists of:

• 
  
• HP MSA 2000
  
• x2 HP DL380 G5
  

 

I can obviously provide more info if required, but at the moment I am just investigating options and the most cost effective way to implement this solution.

Looks similar to my new setup (apart from the SANS, can't afford those...).

 

I'm going to using Hyper-V replication to replicate the VMs from the new HP DL380 G9s to my old server as my way of ensuring failover. I also looked at setting up a Failover cluster, but as I don't have highly accessible storage it's not possible for me, though looks like it would be very possible for you.

Yes it is one of the very few things I have managed to get extra capital for during my time here. Thanks for the information, I think I will probably expand the existing cluster across to the old kit, but I am worried about the network traffic side of things, it is a lot of data to replicate.
