Remove default user image from login screen

Has anybody managed to completely remove the default user image from the login screen on Windows 10 1607.

 

 

I don't want account pictures or a branded logo, just want it gone.

i have yes and changed other user to the school name.. just problem is i cannot remember how i did it!! .. it was on here someone if i find it ill post it.

Hi,

 

If you create a file policy at computer level and replace all the images in 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\User Account Pictures\' with your custom ones, you want to make sure the sizes and names are all the same as the originals.

 

if you are running Anniversary edition, you need to enable the GPO under computer config, admin templates, control panel, user accounts that's called 'Apply the default account picture to all users'

But I want to get rid of it not replace it with a logo.

You edit the credprovhost.dll file using a reg editor and replace the 'other user' text within it to something else, then take ownership and replace the file.

I just used a gpo to replace the images with our own that were located on the %logonserver%.

If you don't want to replace it but want it gone, depending on the version you are running you can create a file policy to delete the files in the folder I mentioned, if you are running pre-anniversary you can delete them, if you are running anniversary you need to create a transparent icon and replace the file otherwise it uses the default image that it's finding from somewhere else.

A side note though, don't delete all the files because this then removes the user photo in the start menu that users click to log off and becomes difficult to see how to log out. My advice (what i've done) is create a branded image and replace all files with this except from the 'User-192' files... these you want to replace with a transparent icon and this then removes it from the login screen but not from within the OS so users still know how to log out.

Cheers guys. Just replaced the user-192.png with a transparent image of the same size and now does not show.
