Internet Explorer 11 working sporadically for all users

Hi all,

We are seeing some very strange behaviour with IE11 and have been for a long time now.

Issues include random blank tabs opening when clicking on hyperlinks. New windows opening rather than new tabs. Random "XXXX has stopped responding - reload webpage" since Christmas.

We use roaming profiles and Windows 7 SP1 fully patched.

I've tried trashing the profiles for some of the affected users but it hasn't helped.

I was wondering if any else has seen this and has a fix to try?

I did try a reinstall of IE11 on one PC but that didn't help either.

I haven't experienced that personally, however if you have trashed roaming profiles (which I would strongly suggest getting away from all together), and reinstalled IE 11 with no change, I would push towards a PC issue, maybe virus ?

Run some scans on the local machine, malware e.t.c

This is across the whole network but is very intermittent.

We run Sophos and Intercept X on all of the PCs which isn't flagging anything up.

The plan is move away from roaming profiles when we migrate to Windows 10.

App Data is redirected so I do wonder if there is an issue with that (App Data has also been trashed for individuals at the same time as their profiles).

We also have Chrome installed - which works fine and doesn't exhibit any of the same behaviour.

Various users however insist on using IE

OK looking around at the event logs on every PC. We see the following.

Faulting application name: IEXPLORE.EXE, version: 11.0.9600.18538, time stamp: 0x582749db

Faulting module name: MSHTML.dll, version: 11.0.9600.18538, time stamp: 0x58275c38

Exception code: 0x4000001f

Fault offset: 0x00e3b478

Faulting process id: 0x274c

Faulting application start time: 0x01d2966737688db0

Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\IEXPLORE.EXE

Faulting module path: C:\Windows\system32\MSHTML.dll

Report Id: 7eb51432-025a-11e7-906e-ecb1d7715446

I've tried running adwcleaner which doesn't find anything. As I've said before we run both Sophos Endpoint Protection and Sophos Intercept X

SFC doesn't find anything. Internet explorer reset doesn't seem to help either.

IE could work for days without an issue for an individual user, then suddenly it will crash several times in a short space - always logging the same fault to event log.
