IIS Worker Process Issues

For about three weeks now i have been having major issues with some VM's run a web application - primarily my web/vle server and my exchange13 server.

Simply, after a reboot, the IIS Worker Process goes crazy. it will settle down after a while - anything from 10 mins to an hour.

In this time the processor gets almost maxed out and certainly runs at a high level.

 

VM runs under HyperV, is a full SP'd 2012r2 machine which runs sophos as its AV. There is no other role that each server performs, i.e. the web server is a web server etc.

 

However it is very annoying and slows web access right down, affecting my schoolbase online, web site, intranet and exchange OWA access.

 

can anyone suggest what i might need to check or do to resolve this?
