SIMS in the Classroom and CC4

We are looking at implementing SIMS in the Classroom to allow classroom staff to take the register electronically and perform other admin tasks.

 

BUT

 

Currently we have separate office and curriculum servers and networks - both Windows server 2008 based but CC4 on the curriculum server. Capita say there is no problem interfacing the two, but cannot give us any examples of where it has been successfully implemented. Our external IT guru has heard of schools where it has been a major headache, but again cannot give examples.

 

So, is there anyone out there with separate admin and curriculum servers, running CC4, who has implemented Sims in the classroom and what problems if any did you experience?

I'm not sure whether 'SIMS in the Classroom' is a bolt-on service from Capita or whether you're referring to simply deploying SIMS to all staff devices to enable register taking etc.

 

If the latter, when I first started here I inherited a separate Admin/Curriculum domain setup (believed to be more secure by the LEA historically). SIMS deployed fairly easily via SOLUS3 to a device on the other domain. You're prompted for credentials for the other domain when deploying. Do you use SOLUS3 currently?

 

Admittedly we don't use CC4 but remember that your CC4 network is still just Windows Server-based underneath.

 

If you haven't thought about it already, I'd strongly encourage you to look down the route of combining the two separate domains and virtualising where neccesary. It was one of my top priorities when I started here and I haven't looked back since!

Personally, I have not done it, so cant give any further help.

 

I used to have the same setup as your, but got rid of CC4 and build a new domain which also merge admin (SIMS) into one. It's much better than trying to force it to work.

We had the issue when I first started in schools, we were using trust relationships between our CC3 curriculum network and Pure windows Admin networks.

 

As others have said above - 1. merge the networks 2. sit back and relax.

 

Or just use SOLUS and be prepared to input credentials a lot.
