Cloud Based VPN / Remote Access

Hi All,

 

Sorry if this is in the wrong category, I wasn't really sure where it best fit.

 

I'm looking for some recommendations of some VPN software that doesn't rely on the router or a static IP for remote access.

 

Basically, something like the Teamviewer VPN, where you have a client running at each end and it goes via the companies own cloud servers to negotiate a route to setup the VPN connection (but hopefully not as costly).

 

The reason for this is a friend is running a small business from a shared office, that has a single shared business connection. He has no access to configure the router to setup a VPN using something like a draytek router so that solution is out of the question unfortunately as he also refuses to put his own broadband in. They want to be able to access mapped drives remotely, that are running from a workstation as they don't have a server / domain in place.

 

I've come across this NeoRouter :: Mesh but it's not something I've used or come across before, so hoped someone on here had used something similar in the past?

 

Any recommendations appreciated.

I'd suggest they look at something like Onedrive if they are only wanting to share files so no VPN required at all.

They're currently using OneDrive, but are finding it to be a little unreliable in terms of the sync, sometimes failing or taking longer to sync that expected - resulting in people overwriting each others files.

Could they open the documents stored on OneDrive through Office 2016 or their browser? No syncing involved then.

Alternatively avoid VPNs altogether and use something like SyncThing or Resilio Sync for Workgroups.

I've not even considered that... Depends what version of office they're on but not been to see his current setup yet, just trying to get some ideas together.

Ah, the LogMeIn Hamachi looks like just the tool - well price and free for up to 5 users too. Cheers
