The hardware is much the same, however the Edgeswitches are managed locally via their web UI or CLI (they also have some layer 3 functionality), the UniFi switches are managed centrally via the UniFi controller. 1

I'm not sure about the non POE versions, but the 24/48 port POE models are known to have noisy fans. The smaller 16 port model is much quieter though, and the 8 port is fanless.
