Ubiquiti Switch Series Confusion...

Confused by the Ubiquiti switch series, in particular the difference between these two models:

To be used as an edge switch.

Those switches don't have any POE. The hardware is much the same, however the Edgeswitches are managed locally via their web UI or CLI (they also have some layer 3 functionality), the UniFi switches are managed centrally via the UniFi controller.

Thankfully not really after layer 3 functionality, or POE.

 

I've read on this forum that the Unifi series may be a tad noisy.

I'm not sure about the non POE versions, but the 24/48 port POE models are known to have noisy fans. The smaller 16 port model is much quieter though, and the 8 port is fanless.
