DCUK6 Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 (edited) Just joined another school and they have a weird thing that when a user first logs into a machine it sets it up so if they click on a folder it opens it up in a new window. If they then click on the a folder in that folder it opens it up in a new windows. Cant see anywhere in the GPOs that would change this and cant see any registry edits. The only thing i can see is Classic shell is forced in explorer but dont think this causes that. Can anyone think where this is coming from? It happens on new machines installed from disk so not a pre-image change. Update. Looks like this is a classic shell issue after all from reading up a bit more. Not going to disable it until i have the new GPOs made. Edited February 15, 2017 by DCUK6
tberty Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 Have you resolved it yet? If not, you can modify this registry entry to be back to normal. Backup your registry Then, in Regedit, navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell\explore If the value under default setting isn't (value not set) or "none", please change it to that. Reboot and see if it works. Typically, when you right-click on a folder, the first option would be "Open". But somehow, it changed to "Open in a new window". So whenever you double-click on a folder, it will open a new window instead of in the same window.
