Dos_Box Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 Apparently this is to replace Greenlight and prevent the noise that some unscrupulous devs generate to get their games listed: Valve to let developers pay to get games on Steam - BBC News
pete Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 So, who's expecting a lot more terrible games on Steam as a result? $100 > $5000 isn't much of a speedbump.
Garacesh Posted February 13, 2017 Posted February 13, 2017 (edited) So, who's expecting a lot more terrible games on Steam as a result? $100 > $5000 isn't much of a speedbump. It probably is for 'studios' that keep pumping out Unity asset flips and minecraft clones. Realistically, Valve just need to stop pussyfooting around and just blacklist devs that keep churning out this rubbish. Allowing 'Game studios' such as Digital Homicide to keep proliferating their garbage into the Steam store just degrades the authenticity of Steam as a digital distribution platform. Garacesh Posted February 15, 2017 Posted February 15, 2017 https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/02/14/steam-curation-user-reviews-fixes/ Interesting article by Rock, Paper, Shotgun about this.. I'm inclined to say that I agree. Valve need some kind of actual curation service and I think they also ways to blacklist the repeat offenders. In the past 10 years Steam has gone from the must-have digital distribution and gaming platform, to that program I might as well use 'cause it has all my games on it. Their storefront has become and absolute joke, and their customer service is appalling.
