Rogue Access point

Hi all

 

We have a Unifi system which works fine

 

however recently I occasionally get alerts about a rogue access point - normally in one specific area around the middle of the school - which is near the car park

 

the MAC address is normally different each time - it has repeated once - and the time of day varies all over the place

 

I was wondering if anyone knows enough about stuff to know if this is something I should worry about

and if so what should I do - only thing I can think of is to change the SSID and see if the problem follows it

Hae you Googled the first three parts of the MAC address to see the manufacturer? Might give you a clue as to whether it's an iPhone being a hotspot, an AP, or whatever.

I was about to suggest a hotspot. We have people who come in to deliver adult courses and they use a 4G hotspot for youtube.

Thought of that which is why I am thinking of changing the SSID to something less common

 

however the MAC addresses are totally different so looking them up is probably pointless

 

at the moment I am assuming that our SSID is very common and people walking past the school sometimes have phones set up with the same name for a hotspot
