pdf picture problems

I'm hoping someone understands pdf better than me...

 

Our office have created an ad for publication in the local rag.

 

We do not have any macs or fancy software and zero budget.

 

They create the ad (measuring 17 + 13cm or thereabouts) in Word and then run it through a pdf generator to get the pdf. It contains the .bmp school logo, a .jpg phto, text a box, etc. Usually they use pdf995 (the free version) which is installed locally to create pdfs, but this seems only to kick out A4 sized pdfs.

 

To get a non-standard size document they use http://convert.neevia.com/ choosing to output in pdf 1.7 format with a high resolution (2000).

 

The problem:

When the pdf ad was emailed to the paper, they say the photograph is missing. Yet when we look at it from our end - it's there! The logo made it. Does anyone understand what's happening, please?

 

They have succesfully created ads in this way in the past, so what's going wrong

Is there a possibility that the two places are running different versions of whatever it is that is presenting the .pdf for viewing? I have experienced this when opening .pdf files in different versions of Acrobat reader for instance. I have also downloaded .pdf files, all graphics fine on monitor but black rectangles when printed. Again I think it may be a version issue.

It is possible, I'll get them to ask the paper what version of pdf they are using. Thanks for the suggestion

You could try posting the pdf on here as well if you like.. if it's an ad I can't see that you'd have a confidentiality problem
