I've had a play with Server 2008, mainly the NAC components, and I spotted the Reg review here: http://www.regdeveloper.co.uk/2008/02/27/windows_2008_web_server_core_review/ and was rather surprised that ASP.Net won't work in server core:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/compare-core-installation.aspx a pretty common implementation on IIS and a sensible candidate for a stripped down server.

Were I in a more snarky mood, I'd make a comment about script kiddies with a copy of Vista and nlite.

It would be great if they provided a decent means of explaining the interdependencies of necessary components so .Net could be made to work and instructions for registering just the vital stuff with windows, manually if necessary. Instead there's the whole "oh you need everything for that to work" approach which defeats the point of core.

I read that they are looking to bring in Powershell in core in a later release which, you guessed it, is not available in SP0 because it needs .net. Presumably that means that .net is on the way for server core..
