snagrat Posted January 14, 2017 Posted January 14, 2017 Made some DNS changes but still it applies nearly 20hours later. I know it can take 24 hours but would expect it to be done by now. Anyone else see this?
quiet_andy Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 I made some changes to DNS on Vidahost and had exactly the same. 24 hours later everything was working fine, they said it was probably a cache somewhere which takes a day to refresh.
snagrat Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 I'm up to about 36 hours now and still not showing
kmount Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 If you query the name servers directly on your domain whois can you see the changes there? That will help work out where the problem may be.

That will help work out where the problem may be. How do I do that? Normally I just use MXToolbox to query the domain but the changes are not showing their either
kmount Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Nip to - http://whois.domaintools.com/ Pop your domain in there and look for the nameserver lines 5 of 6 down. Then open your command prompt and run: nslookup server (one of the nameservers on the output) yourdnsrecord.yourdomain.com See what the answer is (this forces your request to that specific server instead of your ISP/whoever). Or PM me it and I'll do it
snagrat Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 Done that but the answer is incorrect. Can't imagine I've done it wrong on Vidahost. I've only added a custom DNS revord
snagrat Posted January 15, 2017 Author Posted January 15, 2017 Ah found I'm doing it in the wrong place. Should be done in the hosting Control Panel, not Vidahost one
kmount Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 Could be their end, might be worth posting a screenshot of the record you added, or making another smaller change (like adding a test A record) to force another zone update.
DMcCoy Posted January 15, 2017 Posted January 15, 2017 If you were with csnewmedia before it became part of vidahost, and you are just using the basic dns hosting, then you will need to change your dns servers to ns1.vhdns.net and ns2.vhdns.net (use default servers will do this in the control panel). If you are still pointing at the csnewmedia ones, they are read only any do not get updated.

If you are still pointing at the csnewmedia ones, they are read only any do not get updated. Did they mail anyone to tell them this? I've found comms and support awful, they have some nicely insecure software on some servers (again probably what they would call legacy now given they were from CSNM days) which is a bit of a risk as its out of patch but alas they couldn't advise if / when they were going to fix it and closed my support ticket other than blame Plesk to which I pointed out they had newer versions available just needs installing to remove some bugs (even plesk themselves didn't have all the bugs fixed on release notes I could see). Needless to say I will be looking at moving elsewhere with that lax attitude to security and patching systems that hosts my data.
