I have been asked to draft up a policy for the school in regards to school social media accounts. The idea being that staff are aware of set procedure for having an online presence in the school name, facebook, twitter, youtube etc.

Has anyone done this and have a policy they would be willing to share, or any thoughts on what would be a good system to have? I have some ideas but would be interested in what anyone else.

We don't have a written policy as such, however, we do tell staff that any Social Media accounts must be created by the school (ie IT Support). If they have been set up by individuals then they are expected to provide us with the login details for the account (this is mostly a safeguarding thing though).

If the account is created by us, then we add it to the list of "official" social media accounts which we publish on the school website. For Twitter accounts, we then ensure that the main school account follows it and retweets/favourites things that they post. If the account is not created by us, then we don't do any of these.
