office 2013 freezing on insert tab

We have had an issue gradually affecting students - windows 7/office 2013

When they click insert on powerpoint or word then it freezes - not responding. Only solution is to close it by task manager.

Can insert new slide from home tab and then sometimes insert from insert menu works.

This happens to admin users as well.

Not sure what has changed.

We have installed policy central v6 recently but I don't think it is this.

Have tried disabling com add-ins.

Could be an update?

Anyone else come across this or any ideas?

am posting solution to help others.

Policy Central version 6 was the culprit - it conflicts with netsupport manager. This caues powerpoint and other office programs to hang.

Solution is to install latest version of netsupport which has been patched up to prevent this.

I work in the support team and NetSupport, after looking into the above there was a known conflict found in 2014 when using previous releases of NetSupport School\NetSupport Manager with Policy Central that could cause the issue you found with Office 2013.

 

A full solution to this issue was included in NetSupport School version 11.41.0010 (released November 2014) and NetSupport Manager 12.01.0011 (Released Dec 2014).
