SQL server agent disabled - 2012 express

Hello,

 

I took over a few schools from our LA and have just noticed that all of them have the SQL server agent set to disabled. I contacted the LA and they were not helpful.

 

Everything seems to be working fine with Sims and FMS and the backups are all running but I am a bit confused as to why they would have disabled this service.

 

The backups are called using a script.

 

Should I just enable the service anyway?

I tend to leave things as they are if they work, at least until I need to make a change.

hmmm I thought it was on by default, but could be wrong.

Default has been disabled with all the installs I have ever done.

SQL Agent is disabled (by default) in SQL Server Express as its not licensed. If you start it, it will just stop. You need SQL Server Standard (or higher) to use the SQL Agent. Most schools will just use Windows Schedule task to schedule a backup.
