Toshiba Sat Pro C50 - Black/Dim Screen

I've had this problem a few times now with these Toshiba's. What happens is the screen is extremely dim, if you look carefully you can see that the computer is working as normal as the logon screen displays. Does anyone have the procedure for the fix on these? The net shows a shift+f8+power key combo to fix it, but no such luck with this model. It's really annoying.

Sounds like the backlight is not working. I think it's an LED screen so it's not inverter. It could be the cable has come slightly loose, the fuse has blown if it uses one(if the screen was replaced without removing the battery first) or part of the circuitry on the back of the screen has failed. It could finally be LED failure but that is rare.

It's odd, a few of these machines have had the same fault but fixed themselves after a short while. Maybe it is hardware. Gutted.

Is it not Fn+F6 to dim and Fn+F7 to brighten ? maybe the kids are messing with settings if they are dim then working again a while later.

No settings in power management ?

No has no affect, I think it is the back light. Ah well. Thanks anyway.

You can always verify if it is the screen. Remove the battery first and swap a bright screen from a known working laptop to one with a dim screen and see if the fault moves.

Replaced a few c50 monitors myself that showed similar symptoms as you are having. on all occasions a replacement screen was required and fitted. Relative easy to replace but fiddly especially for anyone who has hands bigger than an infants

 

Be warned that screens slightly differ between sub-models. Ensure before purchasing, you check the model number of the screen located on the back side.

Thanks for the tip. I've about 50 of these laptops, get the feeling i'll be replacing a few more in the not so distant future.
