Disease Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 I have an old HP x1600 storage array which has 12 1TB drives. The Caddie shows as 7.2k SATA MDL and the drives in the Caddies are all Seagate Barracuda ES.2 1TB 7200 SATA drives. I have always replaced failures with a the same drives from HP but these Seagates seem to be failing a lot. Come back in after the Christmas break to find 1 drive failed and 3 in predictive failure. its the storage server for my veeam backups. Can I just replace then with say WD Red 1tb drives or do you thin I can only use the Seagate ones? Cheers
sted Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 should be fine in an ideal world all drives should match but you can put others in there they dont even need to be the same size (as long as the new drives are the same or bigger it should be fine) 1

computer_expert Posted January 3, 2017 Posted January 3, 2017 Bear in mind that the WD Red drives are 5400RPM (or there about). You may see a performance hit as the array will drop down to the speed of the slowest drive. I think the WD red pro drives are 7200RPM though.
