Backup Assist file restore differences

I'm moving files from one server to another, and I thought it was a good time to test the backups and do it that way, however on restoration there is a large difference between number of files

 

The original Source has :-

 

289,371 Files, 25,182 Folders

 

after restoring to new drive

 

282,404 Files, 25,182 Folders

 

That's a difference of 6967 files

 

Backup assist doesn't backup thumbs.db but that only accounts for 198 files

 

This is a bit disconcerting

 

I've tried doing directory compares, windiff just crashes out part way through and other things I'm trying are complaining about path length

 

Backups according to the Backup Assist reports are successful and complete, I used the latest backup and there should be no changes from a user standpoint.
