can anyone share experience of using jira and confluence systems by atlassian?

All depends on what your requirements are for them?

 

Both pretty good but I hate using Confluence as a wiki ... pretty annoying to format so I tend to do a lot of my documentation offline first then cut and paste in ... works out well as I need Word versions to convert in to PDFs anyway ... but still annoying. Are there any particular areas you are looking at? What for?

To use as a support desk interface for a project i am working on with some colleagues. need a tool that will allows to document, track, and collaborate on workflow.

We are tied in to it through our development cycle and probably don't use a lot of the tools we could do. I'd be tempted to also look at something like the free Project templates from BrightWork that can be used on O365 Sites ... If you are focusing on task management / document management then that could be a good way, or if you are focusing on issue / requirement management then Jira / Confluence is a good way ... like all tools that are powerful, you can spend ages tweaking things ... have a really good watch of the videos on the Atlassian site to pick up some standard methods of implementation.

We've just started moving our documentation from Google Docs to Confluence (hosted with the cloud option).

 

Have previously used Confluence at another company and is going down well here. Using custom templates and the page properties report features to list out services, servers, CCTV cameras, printers and suchlike in sensible lists and then (after some tweaks) the built in how to guide template to build up our internal guides on how to make changes/deploy new software/suchlike.

 

Regards formatting I'd say start learning the keyboard shortcuts as soon as you can like Ctrl + 1/2/3/4 for headings, [ to link to another page within Confluence and { to kick of Macros like the Info box.

 

May look towards Jira at some point (we're just using a shared Outlook Mailbox at the moment!), again from previous experience it really comes down to making tweaks to the templates to get them to do what you want.
