CMIS / SIMS Report Writing

Good Afternoon,

 

I am new to the Education Industry and am in the process of learning my way around.

 

I'm a Chartered Accountant most recently working as a Financial Analyst prior to having a second child which has prompted a slight career redirection to balance family and work life.

 

Given my career history I am very used to being able to either write a report to analyse the data that I require or alternatively pull a data dump off the system which will allow me to obtain the data that I require.

 

I can see that CMIS and SIMS both have reports built in to the system however I am keen to know if there is a way that I can either edit/write reports within the system or alternatively pull off the data within the system to enable me to manipulate and obtain the reports that I require.

 

Can anyone shed any light on this please. Useful hints, tips or training courses would be very much appreciated!

 

I should also add that I mainly use both CMIS and SIMS systems so am concentrating on these initially.

CMIS is very flexible for report writing if you know MS SQL. You can get guides from the support site, data dictionary and courses were run when I used to manage CMIS in my last job. It was, in my opinion, more powerful than SIMS for reporting if you knew SQL but different people say different things so that was my view from using both others will prefer SIMs as its word mailmerge style.

I believe i have the old Foundation and Advanced Reporting class manuals in my documents somewhere, they're a few years old but pretty accurate still.
