[ms office - 2016] Trouble editing shared Excel Workbooks using Internet Explorer

We seem to be having sporadic issues with staff being able to edit Microsoft Excel workbooks which have been shared with them via OneDrive. They can view the Excel file just fine with the online preview, however when they want to click the button to edit in browser/edit in Excel, sometimes it just won't let them? It can happen to the same file with just a few minutes in between?! The annoying part is that this only happens when using Internet Explorer. If you try the same thing using Chrome it works first time, every time.

 

Anybody else experience this and know a solution? I have tried resetting IE's settings from the advanced tab.
