Cush2790 Posted November 24, 2016 Posted November 24, 2016 Afternoon all! We have around 40 Amazon Fire Tablets purchased with a view of using them as Kindle devices by previous IT Staff. I have just got off the phone with a lovely chap at Google who informed me their Admin tool can only manage Chromebook devices not Android devices....great. My question now is, do you guys have any recommendations or tips on how we can lock the Play store and centrally manage the Apps available. Thanks in advance
chrishill88 Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 (edited) I've just had a school ask about buying a class set to access the internet on. In the past with any android tablets I've added them to Meraki, although I can't push out much in the way of MDM it does give me a central log of the devices other than my inventory, then I've used Kid's Place from the app store to "lock" them down so the children can only access the apps I want them to. It's a laborious process as each device has to be done manually and with the Kindle Fire's I found I had to install apps not available via .apk which again was a bit messy. In America they have Whispercast which I believe can manage the kindles however speaking to them earlier this week they don't sound like they have plans to release it here although time will tell. If anyone else has ideas I would love to hear them as well. Edited November 25, 2016 by chrishill88 1
Arthur Posted November 25, 2016 Posted November 25, 2016 If you have the 7" Kindle Fires you could convert them into proper (a.k.a. AOSP) Android tablets with the Google Play Store. I did this with mine at home and it's much better now. http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/orig-development/rom-fire-nexus-rom-lmy49f-t3300714/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/unbrick-amazon-fire-7in-2015-5th-gen-t3285294
