profit10 Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Hi, I'm having a recurring problem with some staff laptops where a mapped network drive keeps appearing as working offline even when it is connected to the network. On the properties of the drive it says CSC-CACHE. What is strange is that this drive isn't even set to work offline, only the U: (home drive) is specified in the GPO and should be available offline. Any ideas? Thanks.
Joanne Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 I find with this, staff member may have right clicked the network drive and chose to sync it. If you go into Sync Centre (search in start) on the offending laptop, you should be able to remove the link. I'm interested to see what others say, because I have a problem where laptops need to be rebooted to correctly connect to the network and show unsynced files online as opposed to the greyed out files with red crosses. Damn I hate offline files! Trying to convince people to use OneDrive is hard!
profit10 Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 Whilst I would normally be happy to blame it on the teachers, there is no option for them to have accidentally clicked and I have witnessed it happen myself when using one of the laptops. It is also happening to quite a few people now. Thanks
Joanne Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Hmmm... what does the sync centre look like on one of the affected laptops?
profit10 Posted November 18, 2016 Author Posted November 18, 2016 Just the same as any other but when you go into the offline files list, the network drive is listed there. All the options for staff to make it available offline are disabled and I've not told it to in the policy like I have with the U: drive.
Joanne Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 Found this - https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/1d9fc419-5dcf-4fcb-8955-fdca33fe3cce/network-drive-cached-even-though-offline-files-disabled?forum=w7itprogeneral Something about resetting the database...
mullet_man Posted November 18, 2016 Posted November 18, 2016 I had a similar issue recently, which was down to permissions. The drive would only appear on a restart, coming from sleep would lose connection. Check this link. https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2512089
profit10 Posted November 21, 2016 Author Posted November 21, 2016 Joanne - That link will bring the drive back but it doesn't stop the problem from happening in the first place unfortunately. mullet_man - Thanks, I had a look but I already have the correct permissions on the share.
Joanne Posted November 21, 2016 Posted November 21, 2016 Have you tried disabling offline files and then re-enabling? Don't forget to sync first
mowgli82 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 i have this issue, the offline files work for a bit then keel over, did anyone find a solution
Joanne Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 For me it was to get people to use OneDrive. Sorry, not very helpful.
