Morning all,

We have been teaching computer science for a few years now and I originally put in place some virtual machines to use Visual Studio programming which involves EXE's.

Sadly the Virtual machines are being abused and people are deleting each others work so I am looking for a new solution.

How does everyone else deal with Programming classes that need to save executable's? Currently EXE's are banned on our network drives with FSRM for obvious reasons.

I was thinking of scripting some kind of special area to save, just not sure how to do it.

We use Virtual Box VM's with a pass through to the User's H: drive configured. They save anything they are working on to their Home Folder.

From what I understand they copy back everything into the VM when they need it. Our Computing teacher say's that they are changing the spec's next year so will no longer need the VM's.

You got any more details on this? Just looking at our machines going forwards and would make a lot of difference if VMs aren't needed.

Thanks,

Steve

Yeh our teacher says they can use 5 languages with options including Python, C sharp, Java, Pascal (wtf!!), and C++.

Java and Python are pretty easy to just allow on the network, but visual studio isn't.

Not sure whats happening next year.
