rad Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Start off, Learning Support had 10 iPads I set up managed by Apple Configurator, I had no guidance on apps but installed 30 odd free ones. Que 2 or 3 years later the Senco has issued a few to LSA staff and they are now requesting them to be unlocked/unmanaged so they can do what they like with them. Apart from them being "personal" items and having to set up individual accounts, what other issues are there?
Brimstone Posted November 2, 2016 Posted November 2, 2016 Well firstly these devices are owned by a school, not the individual so at a minimum they should be... Supervised, that way apps you have purchased or intend to purchase for them to use (even if only a few) are not given away to a users Apple ID when they leave. If you give a user an unmanaged device and then turn on activation lock with " Find My iPhone" and then leave and are uncontactable there is no easy way for you to reset the iPad, so again Supervised so you can turn this off. Might also be worth using a free MDM like Meraki instead of AC2. 1
slancaster Posted November 9, 2016 Posted November 9, 2016 I wouldn't allow a school device out without it being managed. I'd get the iPads supervised, and enrolled to MDM to have control over them, and to future proof any growth with iPads at your school. Good point made by Brimstone about activation lock - you need that control which can only be offered by MDM.
rad Posted November 9, 2016 Author Posted November 9, 2016 It's ok, I won, user lost. However they have yet to give it to me with the list of required apps! I bet it never arrives.
