IP CCTV Questions

Site manager is looking at finally (hopefully) replacing the old TERRIBLE CCTV hardware. We'll probably do it piece by piece as a rolling program over the years, as there's no money to replace the whole lot in one go...

 

I've got an iSCSI SAN spare that i can use as a storage location for recordings, I can happily setup a VM with some software to act as the CCTV server, however what software is there out there for this sort of thing? Any freebies that are good for this?

 

Also any recommendations for indoor and outdoor cameras that don't break the bank?

 

Hopefully I'm not barking up the wrong tree by doing DIY IP Camera system rather than buying one of these "kit" things a lot of places sell.

We are usng GeoVision Cameras. Also using VMS (which comes with the cameras) on a i7 16GB 4x4TB drives to record on.

 

Our cameras are off the main network (security network) (2 nics in the VMS, one for our network and other for security network) Guessing you could use your SAN as a recording storage.

 

Using these to replace the old BNC cams.

Look to be relatively cheap from what google gives me, not heard of them before, what's the recording quality like? Our existing system is blurrific

ha, Not too bad. Most of the cameras are only 1.3mp Which works out around 1280 x 1280. Compared to the only BNC cams that are 320x320?!?! its alot better.

We're a MOBOTIX house and have been installing it into a number of schools.

 

We are often able to reduce cameras in certain locations by covering a larger area from a single unit, to get you the most of our your available budget.

 

The 360 hemispheric lens, for example, is capable of recording a whole room.

 

The image can then be split into a more usable image for the everyday viewing without losing any of the detail needed, the image can also be split into 4 sections to monitor 4 different areas if required, doing the job of multiple cameras. All the 360 degree cameras offer additional analytics services, such as heat mapping and people counting at no extra cost to enable.
