HP EVA Storage Replacement

Hello,

 

I'm looking at putting the case forward for replacing some of our aging hardware, we have an HP EVA (HSV300) with 4 disk enclosures containing FATA and FC disks, making a total of 36TB capacity. It's all 7 years old now, and HP support costs are increasing rather drastically.

 

We have a VMWare environment consisting of 3 hosts and a single backup server that all use the EVA for storage via 8GB fibre channel.

 

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to storage solutions, so can anyone give me some suggestions for what to look at as a replacement for the EVA? Something along the same lines in terms of capacity and performance is fine, although any increased performance wouldn't be a bad thing. I'd like to keep our data in-house and not in the cloud.

What's your FC infrastructure like? It could be a time to look to move to iSCSI or a different storage tech over a different path type - may open up a range of other options. Storage wise, most solutions now offer some form of SSD caching which will give you some performance improvements, capacity is easily gained. The other option to look at is all flash, but it depends on what load you're hitting onto the storage (ie iops, volume of data written).
