Many are complaining about slow receipt of incoming mail from a GMail account, the delay can be as long as one day.

We use smoothwall for spam filtering the entries in 'SMTP RBL checks' are: zen.spamhaus.org,bl.spamcop.net,dnsbl.sorbs.net

Example of returned message from an email:-

The error that the other server returned was:

554 5.7.1 Service unavailable; Client host [209.85.214.54] blocked using dnsbl.sorbs.net; Currently Sending Spam See: SORBS Database Lookup

Any ideas?

Thanks

It looks like SORBS has black listed this Gmail IP address. The solution would be to not block Gmail IP addresses based upon SORBS. You can use SORBS to filter mail into a spam folder, but blocking SMTP traffic at the network level due to SORBS can cause issues such as these, which are impossible for senders to overcome.

It certainly seems if SORBS is the problem

What are the best SMTP RBL check sites to use? Do you think drop sorbs for another?

Someone else might be able to give you a better answer but I would drop SORBS for the Barracuda Reputation Block List (b.barracudacentral.org). I would consider Barracuda to be a better replacement. You are already using Spamhaus and SpamCop so I think that should cover you.

Other than that I don't know if anyone else has any suggestion's?

Ran into the same problem over the last few days for 209.85.217.176 (another google email server). Currently we use a third party for email rather than through smoothwall but since this is now becoming a major problem I'm looking at alternatives

as our provider gives the stock answer of it's not our problem! Any suggestions for a good DNS host that allows pointing of an mx record to an IP?
