HPE Service Pack for ProLiant (SPP) v2016.10

I thought this might be worth posting since not many people know that SPP 2016.10 was officially released yesterday, it is the first SPP that includes support for Windows Server 2016 and the last SPP to support ProLiant G6 servers.

Users should update to this version if their system is affected by one of the documented fixes or if there is a desire to utilize any of the enhanced functionality provided by this version.

 

This release adds support for:

 

• Microsoft Windows Server 2016
  
• Red Hat Enterprise 6.8
  
• VMware vSphere 6.0 U2
  
• Support for new options
  
• HP Smart Update Manager v7.6.0
  

This is the last SPP that will carry support for HPE ProLiant G6 servers. Support will still be available on www.hpe.com.

 

The SPP will not fit on standard DVD media. See the Service Pack for ProLiant Release Notes for more information. See the Service Pack for ProLiant Server Support Guide for information on supported HPE servers.

I can vouch on that its great and slim once you chop out all the server ranges you don't own, for us I keep in the DL, ML and BL and much better sizing and quicker to process.

I love HP and all, have 8 of their servers however the cost of their care packs/support agreements against Gen7 for example is a joke and especially if you want to push the boxes to Server 2016 (which you need this driver pack in order to do so due to missing drivers) will cost you in the region of over a £1500 to £2000 for 1 server for 1 year, expensive Server 2016 drivers!

Not endorsing anything just pointing out that paying for drivers... Really...

 

EDIT - And just for the record whenever I purchase a new HP server I always take out a 5 year warranty agreement at purchase, 3 year included care pack + additional 2 at purchase for reduced cost. Just after the 5 years in this day and age if the server did go pop and with modern age clustering which I would hope all people have when taking a risk like me of running no warranty support then you would simply buy a new gen server and go again due to technology jump and pricing and live without 1 cluster server for a few days while purchasing and setting up the new one.
