Hi guys,

I am in the process of setting up Office 365 with LGfL and not having much luck with it & Atomwide.

They have enabled their 365 offering and linked it to our uso account for students and staff.

When we shared a new Word or Excel document, it shows uso accounts for all the different sites under LGfL, not just our school. I have asked Atomwide to only show our uso school accounts for staff and students but they have said this cannot be done. I have also asked for them to show students first and surname rather than their uso login (ie fbloggs006.312) as this wouldn’t mean anything to teaching staff, again they have said this cannot be done.

If we register our own domain (ie school.com), could we then link all the staff and students email addresses as they are under [email protected]? I believe this isn’t possible in their offering of 365, i might be wrong.

If we did register our own domain and move all the staff & students emails over to the new mail server (which I don’t want to do), LGfL would block this mail server.

If anyone can point me in the right direction of how to configure 365 in school under LGfL it would be really appreciated.

thanks

Hi Brendan,

Firstly good luck with them! They are a right pain! We are trying to do a hybrid setup and they are refusing to make some changes for us.

We are therefore now upgrading our exchange box to 2016 and we will be looking to ditch LGFL when our contract is up, we already have lightspeed and trustwave mail security products on site, and we use none of the services except myuso and usofx of which we are happy to for.

Stick with it as word going around that they are looking to change their business model so schools can pick and choose what they want.

Our 5 years with LGfL is up in March 2017 so we are looking at our options. If they changed their business model that would make life easier as we are more than happy with their broadband but its the filtering that we don't want. I would rather have Lightspeed or Smoothwall but paying for those on top of the cost of LGfL is prohibitive. If they had an option for just the broadband connection and the price thus was lower then we could consider staying with them.

Hi Fiza,

I'd be pleased to provide a quote when you're ready. We offer on-premise managed UTM/filtering that people seem to like. One thing I would say is that you should probably start investigating this now, as if a supplier wants to put a new fibre into your premises, it can take a while. As you are on a Viginmedia access tail at the moment, a replacement VM circuit won't take too long and you probably had BT in the past, so maybe no issues there either, but better to be safe than sorry. (we can provide either)

You will probably find you need the next 3 months to consider properly all the other aspects that you might be 'entangled' with..

(apologies for hijacking the thread!)

cheers
