Cloning Pi boot disks

Hi all

 

I have a problem (OK OK OK - I have many but this is a Pi problem)

 

I have a nice working boot SD disk for a RPi with some demo stuff on it and some examples that I have done to show the kids what to do

 

I also have a bunch of equal sized SD cards which are empty (or I've formatted them)

 

now I need to copy the original disk onto the others

 

So I can use SD formatter and Win32Diskimager to copy the image to another disk

 

excpt that if the output disk is as much as 1 bit different it won't copy it - and every SD card seems to be very very slightly different sized to every other so most of the SD cards won't work as output disks

 

Has anyone got a better solution to copying a Pi SD card image to other cards??

I'm going to have to try this. If you format the cards and use the Win32Imagewriter it should work fine. Make sure you have the latest versions.

You may want to right click on the software and try Run As Administrator, to see if that has any effect.

 

Have you tried GHOST to create a ghost image and then write it back?

I have been using Win32ImageWriter - it is that which is having the problem

I have literally just done this for a number of PI cards for something.

 

so shrink the original image a bit, make it less than 3 or 7 or 15 GB ect.

chuck it into a ubuntu machine, launch disks, create a restore image,

restore this image to other Cards.

 

using this method i've just clones 12 SD cards for a project.

Yup - I thought it would come to that - I have already shrunk the disk a bit - now I have to find my ubuntu boot disk
