Making eeePC join VM W2k3 server

I need some help to unfuddle my brain.

 

I'm trying to get an eeePC (unmodded) to connect to my school networks (file shares and printing)

 

I call all (well most) of my w2k3 servers SERVER2 and I thought I could just setup a VM w2k3 image at home and continue configuring it at home.

 

But my main home network router thinks its in charge and hands out ips and DNS Settings etc.

 

I'd like my eeePC to not have to be changed - I'd like it to just use the VM w2k3 server and get its DHCP IP/DNS settings from it.

 

Is there a simple way (or not so simple) to accomplish this?

The simple way is turning dhcp off at the router

Well - its has the virtue of being simple (but a bit of work for me going around setting static IPs for the 5 other computers and the Wii) and not being able to just switch on other laptops

 

Any other ideas anyone?

Use a completely different physical network for your testing/playing - just slap a second NIC in the VM host and assign that as the NIC for your server.

If your VM of the server has DCHP then all your other networked items will be issued IP addresses anyway..
