sparkeh Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 So since upgrading to Sierra I can't login as a network user when the machine is booted - the 'other' login option does not appear. However, if I login as a local user and logout again its there! Any ideas why it doesn't show on boot?

And... have you left it 5 minutes to allow the network to come up and detect the directory servers, or tried with wired to see if any different? (just pondering if it’s a slow connect issue - since macOS Sierra, my MBPro takes an AGE to connect to WiFi, so wouldn’t be able to allow network login at boot) Edited October 10, 2016 by Marci 1
sparkeh Posted October 10, 2016 Author Posted October 10, 2016 Well, it did use to take a while for the network accounts to be accessible but thought it was just too long to be correct now. However, I will leave it longer to test it again.
sparkeh Posted October 19, 2016 Author Posted October 19, 2016 Well the issue got worse and couldn't login at all as a network user but now have made some progress on this. I unbound and rebound the mac to the network, which was really tricky as I kept getting a message saying that the domain was not contactable. Eventually it worked and I changed the login screen from 'list of users' to 'username and password'. The username box has an error next to it saying that network accounts are not available. However network accounts can login just fine (I guess that the 'other' user was not available as it thinks network accounts are unavailable so doesn't show the box). Clearly there is an issue with one part of the OS thinking that the domain is not available but another letting you login as a network user. Weird.
