Garacesh Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 (edited) Hello Neighbor - A Stealth Horror Game With Advanced AI Hello Neighbor is a Stealth Horror Game about sneaking into your neighbor's house. You play against an advanced AI that learns from your every move. Below is an unedited 10 minute Lets Play session of an early Pre-Alpha. Because No Man should show edited out gameplay. You move into a brand new suburb and notice your neighbor is hiding something in his basement. The only logical thing to do is to break into his house and figure out what he's hiding. Stealth Horror Procedural AI Pixar-style visuals Extremely tense gameplay The game is being developed in Unreal Engine 4 and is coming to PC Summer 2017. Sounds bloody interesting. I've entered myself for the alpha testing. Edited October 7, 2016 by Garacesh
Domo Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 that first scare got me, was not expecting it so soon.
Joanne Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 OMG.... had to stop watching... too jump scary! But want. I imagine watching me play and screaming would be hilarious!
DJ-1701 Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 OMG.... had to stop watching... too jump scary! But want. I imagine watching me play and screaming would be hilarious! Haven't seen the video yet, but that sounds like a good game for anyone to stream on Twitch.
Garacesh Posted October 7, 2016 Author Posted October 7, 2016 But want. I imagine watching me play and screaming would be hilarious! You better had do! I'd watch it lol. I haven't watched that particular video, but I've watched one where they were discussing how the AI works. So the AI has its own path through the house, and he has his own routine, you can sit and stalk him for ages if you like. But the path has 'nodes' that the game pays attention to you walking through, so it can figure out where you like to go. Each object also has their own 'node' that keeps check of how often and in what way you interact with things. So if you keep hiding inside wardrobes, he'll start checking them and dragging you out if he finds you. It also means if you move stuff (like not closing a door) he'll 'notice' if he walks near it. If you knock things over he can hear it. And he'll start putting buckets above doors, or putting down bear traps, etc. It does sound rather interesting technically.
Xellpnz Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 Now this looks fun. No need for gore, or for super scary faces. Scary done right. Would be amusing with VR =P
Bob_the_Goon Posted October 18, 2016 Posted October 18, 2016 That is blooming marvellous. I'm much prefer Horror that is jump scary and not gorey. Also prefer games with a bit of strategy too. Perfect match. I want this game now!
Garacesh Posted October 18, 2016 Author Posted October 18, 2016 I want this game now! Get yourself on the Pre-Alpha list then. DRM-Free Pre-Alpha client is being distributed this weekend.
Garacesh Posted October 21, 2016 Author Posted October 21, 2016 Open pre-alpha now available to download at Hello Neighbor - A Stealth Horror Game With Advanced AI
DJ-1701 Posted October 21, 2016 Posted October 21, 2016 Open pre-alpha now available to download at Hello Neighbor - A Stealth Horror Game With Advanced AI Well, since the pre-alpha is now available to download... the question now is... Who is brave enough to stream their reactions?
Garacesh Posted October 21, 2016 Author Posted October 21, 2016 I'm fairly certain @Joanne said something about streaming
Joanne Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 OMG YES! How do I get it? Steam? How do I stream on my laptop? Twitch? PC gamer n00b.
Garacesh Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 On Hello Neighbor - A Stealth Horror Game With Advanced AI there's a big green 'DOWNLOAD THE PRE-ALPHA RIGHT NOW' button It will eventually be available on Steam, but to make the Pre-Alpha available on Steam they'd have to either:Make 'two games', one Alpha/Beta, one 'Release', leaving people with a useless pseudo-game entry after completion Give away keys that due to the nature of Steam updates, would equate to giving away the full game. So it's fair enough, really. Pre-Alpha is a bit buggy though. Pressing ESC crashes the game. There's no menu. Audio obviously need a lot of work. Your house only has 2 rooms. A lot of rooms aren't accessible in the neighbours house. Etc. It really is Pre-Alpha. Not like these big AAA games that do 'Beta' tests that are basically free trials of the finished product.
Joanne Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Ahhh ok I'll download it when I get home... unlessssss.... yeah can't download it in school because they use a shortened URL. Anyone got the full URL download link?
DJ-1701 Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Ahhh ok I'll download it when I get home... unlessssss.... yeah can't download it in school because they use a shortened URL. Anyone got the full URL download link? When clicking on it, it takes me here: Hello Neighbor Alpha
Joanne Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 Dayum... I already subscribed. I wonder if I accidentally blocked their e-mail when going through my junk folder...
Garacesh Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 When clicking on it, it takes me here: Hello Neighbor Alpha The email they send you has a shortened url in it. Each person gets their own individually crafted download link (and asked politely not to share it). My presumption is they want each person to sign up so they can gauge interest. Which isn't entirely unreasonable.
Joanne Posted October 24, 2016 Posted October 24, 2016 chances are I've deleted that e-mail! I wonder if they will send another?
Garacesh Posted October 24, 2016 Author Posted October 24, 2016 (edited) chances are I've deleted that e-mail! I wonder if they will send another? I'll PM you my link, then. Edit: Oh, also, the email contained another trailer. Edited October 24, 2016 by Garacesh
DJ-1701 Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 You can now buy the Early Alpha Access copy at https://www.humblebundle.com/store/hello-neighbor for £21.99.
Xellpnz Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 Going to wait on this one. Getting a tad fed up with Early Access to find out its not being worked on any more, or they just gave up and do an half assed job. Do love the idea and setting, hope it gets finished soon =)
Garacesh Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 (edited) Spoiler-free Dev update! (Clarification: There are spoilers about the pre-alpha build, but the stuff in the pre-alpha build isn't going to be in the final game) Edited November 11, 2016 by Garacesh
