Decided to try my hand at something new over the weekend so me and my girlfriend went and downloaded a Geocaching app and went out to give it a go.

Only found about 5 things but it was good fun and we're planning on doing quite a large walk around a route that has about 76 caches along it.

I was just wondering if anyone else has had any experience doing this and what's the best sort of stuff you've found?

I used to do it a few years ago, but not bothered since the site has become more pay-focused, and the caches are just notepads.

Yeah, i've noticed a lot of them are micro-magnets with a tiny bit of paper in, it's nice when you find a big one with items etc in though.

We geocahce with with kids occasionally. They prefer the big ones with 'treasure' in them - as do I! We've helped a handful of travel bugs on their way too.

It's a good way to get us out and about when we might not be otherwise inclined. Be wary of those walks with lots of caches on though - you can spend quite a bit of time hunting for a cache and before you know it it's getting dark and you're only half way round. Give yourself a fixed amount of time to find each one and if you can't, move on. It may well have been lost or stolen.

We found that the national trust like to place some caches around their properties. They also have a habit of placing small items from their shops in them as rewards. Rubbers, pencils etc. So they are worth a bit of hunting.
