Koldov Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 Hi All, Yesterday, I wiped and refreshed some of our iPads through configurator and this morning I have a whole class set of 30 unusable because of this message popping up every couple of seconds! We use VPP and an MDM and haven't seen this message since the early days. I have no clue why I'm even getting the message pop-up as we obviously do not use iTunes, I thought the whole point of a VPP/MDM solution was to bypass this kind of issue. I can't think of any major changes apart from our VPP account got granted iLife and iWork apps for our newer batch of iPads, also when this first popped up after the refresh, no apps were installing so I refreshed all the apps in the MDM using 'redeliver app' and they seemed to install fine after that. Until this morning... I'm going to get hammered today with a full set of iPads out of action! You know they can't teach without them apparently....
tmoon-mint Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 When you configured the devices using AC how did you add the apps to your blueprint if you did at all? (Im also presuming you used AC2 here)
Koldov Posted October 5, 2016 Author Posted October 5, 2016 Thanks for the prompt reply! No, we are still using AC1, no apps in there - they are pushed from the MDM. It would appear that I have 'solved' it! Well, when I say solved it.... I removed all the management and reinstated each profile from AC one by one. First we have a Wi-Fi profile and this when sent to the devices did not auto-join the network. Then obviously the MDM profile was failing as it couldn't 'phone home'. I changed the WPA2 setting to 'any' tried again and it worked. So, I set it back to what it was originally, redelivered it and it connected! However looking into the Wi-Fi profile it also had a restrictions payload. these are dealt with via MDM so I deleted this payload as it should only have been for Wi-Fi. Then I sent the MDM profile and it hooked up and started installing the apps with no prompt... Go figure, I have no idea really what was wrong but I fixed it anyway! Sums my job up in a nutshell...
davyboi Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 (edited) IS your MDM Meraki by any chance? I've had this a few times and its seriously annoying! I have found one of three things usually works; 1. Hard reset the device (Pressing home and lock buttons until the apple logo appears) 2. Re-install missing apps in the dashboard 3. Check the event log of one of the devices, see which app says it has failed because there isn't a license and remove, and re add it. My theory is that sometimes when you choose to install an app in Meraki, the one you choose in the add apps bit, is a slightly different version to the one you've bought managed distribution licenses for, so it thinks its unlicensed and prompts you to log into iTunes to buy it. I tend to now copy the app ID from the system manager > VPP then, search that in the add apps section. This is one of the only points where Lightpeed MDM does it better. with Lightspeed you choose add app, then managed distribution and it gives you a list of what apps you have MD licenses for and you simply hit install, rather than having to search again. Brimstone Posted October 7, 2016 Posted October 7, 2016 Another reason to buy an MDM solution rather than something free...
