Avid Sibelius 8 packaging for network deployment

So how is everyone else finding packaging Sibelius 8?

 

 

I've been having nightmare trying to get it working with PSAppDeployToolkit providing a handy wrapper script to help fix some of the install issues. Works great except the following:

 

1. Avid Application Manager doesn't work behind proxy servers and causes death by Eclipse-Jetty webapp temporary files in versions 2.5.8 and 2.5.9. This seems to be better in a beta version of 2.5.10 Avid support provided. When I say death by temporary files I mean it generates temporary files it's doesn't clean up every 4 mins until there is not space on the system drive anymore. I think Avid need to employ better programmers for their value reducing junkware.

 

2. Sibelius now comes with a handy instructions for silent network installs. wwwwoooohooo yeah great.... but it doesn't work when run under the "nt authority\system" context. A bad installer chain jumping between 32bit and 64bit locations it seeams. So no SCCM deployment for me just yet.

 

3. Oh yeah that Avid Application Manager I mentioned earlier... it's totally unrequired. I recommend uninstalling it as soon as you've finished installing the rest.

 

I'd love to know if anybody is having better luck with packing this software for network deployment.

We have Sib 8.2 installed but I found out yesterday that we need 8.4 installed on the network. One of the teachers has the later version and saved files from 8.4 are not backward compatible with 8.2! We did manage to get 8.2 packaged up. eventually!

Hi JScott did you have the same issue scripting a silent install?

Did you find a solution? I've just gone with manually running our wrapper script as an admin on each computer which got it done. But long term I'd still like to find a solution to why their installer won't work silently installing when running under the system user context. The ability to push software remotely and do unattended installs is a great time saver.

Over on spiceworks a helpful person looked at this for me and suggested I use the setup.exe /a admin install option to extact the package and install that way. I've not had time to fully test it installs all the fonts etc. when done this way.

We've had the same issue here too. Ended up with a scripted install that's run as administrator. Fortunately we only has 30 machines that use it.

How did you run the scripted install as administrator? Interactively or did you find a way of remotely triggering it e.g. scripting a psexec cmd.exe running as admin user remotely?

it was run as administrator interactively, couldn't get it to work any other way.
