Open Google Docs files in Word?

Is it possible to open Google Docs files in Word?

 

Google Drive is installed so I can get to the documents easily but want to directly open in Word, not Google Docs.

 

Can't see that Word will open gdoc files with exporting them first.

You would need to export the docs from drive (online) as a word file.

 

The Google doc on your desktop drive is not a real file but a link back to the Google online file.
