NB9457 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 Hi all. Currently setting up papercut but the way I need it to work is a bit specific and I haven't quite got my head round it, so any help is appreciated! I need to bill Staff by department, wherever they print in the school. When students print, it needs to bill the department they have printed in. What's the best of way of achieving this? Thanks!
DalekSec Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 I didn't set it up but i do maintain it, Easiest way for staff to bill by dept is to add them to the account of said group and change their permissions so they can't select personal account. With the students i would set it on the printer, so when students print to it they get charged to the dept linked to the printer think this is done in scripting

DalekSec Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 So it is possible, I've just got to work it out! Yepp! Our staff print to Dept and two of our rooms printers print via dept aswell
fiza Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 We have it this way. All users are linked to departments. Any that are linked to more than one dept get a drop down to select from. Each printer that students print to has a script that links the printing to the Dept the printer is in. Basically the script goes (for printers in Art Dept) ; if user is member of year7,8,9,10,11,12,13 students then charge to 'Art' department. it works well. If you need any help let me know. 1
mattstevenson2005 Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 How do you handle students or staff that print to printers that are in general areas which no 1 department owns and everyone shares? We currently use print manager plus which has a pop up client when any users prints from anywhere and allows them to select the department they need to bill the job too and then allows them to enter a password (which we have set to change every Sunday, these are then emailed to the corresponding department staff members for them to choose to give the students or not) we are about to move to papercut because we have purchased some new epson mfds which will be used by all departments and require papercut management suite, any idea how we achieve the same setup as we already have but with papercut?

If you want the students to have to type in a password then i think this can only be done with a script. There is a a thread talking of something similar here http://www.edugeek.net/forums/coding/120638-papercut-scripts.html#post1074872
