uzuncakmak Posted September 29, 2016 Posted September 29, 2016 Hello. We have been struggling with Apple Classroom for the last few week or so. I have an iPad Pro with the profile coming over-the-air from Apple Configurator on a mac mini with MacOS Sierra. Apple Classroom works fine unless I activate my personal iCloud account. If I activate, Apple Classroom shows some of the student iPads offline and some of them online. And those online ones remain online for a minute or two and then disappear to offline again. And again after some they may appear again. If I sign out of my iCloud account then Apple Classroom works fine again. I tested Classroom on an iPad Air 2 and it works fine there! What do you think the problem is? Thanks a lot in advance.
Brimstone Posted September 30, 2016 Posted September 30, 2016 You've not mentioned any MDM, this is required for Apple classroom to work, the MDM has to be configured as well..?
uzuncakmak Posted September 30, 2016 Author Posted September 30, 2016 You've not mentioned any MDM, this is required for Apple classroom to work, the MDM has to be configured as well..? We are using Apple configurator.
uzuncakmak Posted October 3, 2016 Author Posted October 3, 2016 Then Apple Classroom will NOT work.... Do you mean that we need a third party MDM solution to get system work and cannot do it with Apple Configurator only?
mikkydoos Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Yes. You need an MDM solution. U may also need DEP. Meraki MDM is free for up to 100 devices.
Griff Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 If over 100 devices I would recommend Lightspeed in a combination with DEP. Lightspeed have plenty of documentation on how to get started.
uzuncakmak Posted October 4, 2016 Author Posted October 4, 2016 I do not then understand how I get Apple Classroom to work without any MDM solution in place other than Apple Configurator and Profile Manager :S
Griff Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Just get an MDM your life will be so much easier...
mikkydoos Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 (edited) I do not then understand how I get Apple Classroom to work without any MDM solution in place other than Apple Configurator and Profile Manager :S An MDM solution allows you to manage your devices from the cloud, rather than having to put them in a trolley and update them manually. My MDM is Cisco's Meraki. Apple configurator and Profile Manager are NOT MDM platforms. I do the following: 1. Use Apple configurator to add the initial setup profile, security certificates and any necessary app (e.g. my MDM's app) to the devices 2. Enrol each device into the MDM 3. Manage any change in settings / apps from the cloud. The MDM is where you will push Apple classroom settings to each device. Simples. Edited October 4, 2016 by mikkydoos
mikkydoos Posted October 4, 2016 Posted October 4, 2016 Look... https://help.apple.com/classroom/ipad/1.1.1/#/cadc1b9b4f8a
Brimstone Posted October 5, 2016 Posted October 5, 2016 I do not then understand how I get Apple Classroom to work without any MDM solution in place other than Apple Configurator and Profile Manager :S Profile Manager IS an MDM solution......But it's not the best, you didn't menton Mac OS X Server?
buzzard Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 agreed Profile Manager is a Mobile Device Manager, not sure why people think it isn't....?
