OWA 2010 - Notifications couldn't be retrieved

Just recently we've got an issue with OWA2010 internally where it will display an error - Notifications couldn't be retrieved.

 

I managed to get it working years ago but now whatever i try nothing works.

 

Has anyone else has this problem?

 

When i log on to the exchange server everything works as expected however on any other machine in school, OWA fails.

 

Just to add to this, setting an email as either read or unread in the blind and low vision version of owa, works without any problems.

We are getting problems with users not been able to send emails. Im not sure if its a smoothwall issue and kerberos though. Something i need to keep an eye on. Internally we use http://*servername*/owa rather than https://mail.domain/owa. It seems that moving to https://*servername* fixes the issue but i have taken off kerberos off authentication on the smoothwall.

I think i might have found a solution, install silverlight as i forgot that owa2010 uses silverlight.
