Do you block tiny URLs?

Do your filters allow users to click onto tiny URLs in your school?

 

I want to know if you think its safe practice to allow this or whether it should be blocked? Currently our primary school filter blocks this but I have been asked to allow it.

Well I guess it's more from the "hiddeness" of the website. You don't really know what you're going to especially for kids

 

But in terms of blocking etc we don't bother, as whatever it hits should be blocked if bad anyway

We have them blocked but we have this website bookmarked which let's you see what is behind the link.

Filters should be blocking the destination not the frankly useful shortening service. A number of our teachers use bit.ly or goo.gl to make it easier for pupils to all get to the same destination.

Indeed, the full URL is resolved so your filtering will pick it up. Also content aware filtering will pick stuff up as well.

Same here. I can't see any reason to block it.
