Surface 3 - Replacement USB Micro Charger?

A lot of our Surface 3 (not Pros) aren't charging as the USB Micro cable is broken. The end are rubbish.

 

Can I just buy any replacement USB A to USB Micro To use instead?

 

The plug bit seems OK so it's just the cable

The recommendation I was given on here was the Anker brand from Amazon. The quality seems good and they grip will enough to lift a 7" tablet, although they seem to wear out after a few months and need replacing.... USB micro seems like an inherently flawed design

I tried several aftermarket cables with one to work as a spare, none worked (even when it was claimed that it would). I bought another official charger in the end.
